Hello and welcome to my Info website
Since I last put up a page I have changed quite a lot in the home office. let me tell you the story, I started like
most users with a Commodore then the BBC model B then progressed onto a PC a Dell desk top running MS
Dos then progressed through the dos editions and Windows came along. after getting all the upgrades as they
became available there was Millenium, then windows 2000 followed by the big advance to XP. then XP
Professional, during these changes I had fitted faster processors / motherboards/souncards /tv cards /cameras
and various things to enhance the performance, but noted that often the hardware add ons would have to be
renewed as they would not work with that or this version etc etc, Downloaded updates by the thousands and
eventually considered giving it all up as very bad expensive idea.
Microsoft announced Vista and I read the opinions of it and thought "here we go again" then peruseing the
web I took a bit more interest in the Apple brand of computers, I liked the look of the iMacs but the cost of them,
well, and then I worked out how much money I had "wasted" over the years trying to keep Bill Gates and his
butties in the style that they had become acuctomed to with the money from the millions of users who like
myself must have shared some of the same things ..... so I orderd a iMac.
I went for the fastest biggest screen iMac I coud find with the intension that if this didnt solve the heartaches
and trauma sessions into the small hours of the morning trying to sort my PC out then I would become a
fisherman and anything computer related in the skip. well that was how I felt at the time anyway. I was nervous
about telling my wife how much I had just blown on another box of tricks , so said nothing...and waited for it to
arrive.
UPS pulled up at the door, I signed for the large box, the wife looked perplexed then changed a sort of white
colour when she saw the word Apple on the box.
Oh no what have you gone and done now she whispered, I meekly took the
Oh no what have you gone and done now she whispered, I meekly took the box upstairs to my room and
closed the door behind me, praying seemed a natural thing to do! I open the box and lifted this lovely looking
screen out and put it on the desk, WoW it was huge, I quickly glanced at the tiny little manual, and then plugged
in the mains plug and switched it on, a apple came up centre screen, a request for my BT Internet password !
eh... how did it do that I thought, it then said checking for software update, and a minute later the desktopp was
there, I inserted batteries in bluetooth keyboard and mouse they both sprung into life. I had caerfully dug out all
my PC drivers for the load of thingys I would have to install ( not) but thought I would plug the USB lead from
my HP 2110 in, a little picture of it was added to the icons along the bottom of the screen! as simple as that, I
took my little Olympus camera out of its case and plugged it in, iPhoto opened and a screen of thumbnails
appeared as if by magic, I gasped, if this was a sign of what I was in for bring it on, I then plugged in a Aiptec
HD video camera usb lead in, the same thing happened, it just loaded them in, I know what - I mumbled to
myself, I searched in the cuboard for my old Olympus CZ220 zoom camera, the same thing again, no problem,
thumbnails loaded in immediately.
After turning on itunes, and watching a few movie previews I was in second heaven. iWorks with Pages that
takes all word docs etc wow, keynote and numbers, and I also I must mention Final Cut Express and Aperture.
They are unbelievable software packages, and of course you get garage band that is awesome, there is so
much more I could tell you, but believe me when I say I wish I had never seen a PC, as this iMac is the bees
knees, I would never go back to a pc again, I have a few in a cuboard in case they will ever be needed,
By the way if I was a sadistic person I can also load windows or vista onto the iMac and run my old software off
the old PCs at the same time, but I think that is unlikely, check out my other website willybizz.com and have
look at my first attempts at editting videos and presenting photos etc, dont laugh, they are my first attempts.
So I rest my case, If you like me really just want a computer that does everything without a fuss and want to get
on with your life and enjoy computing get a mac as soon as you can, you wont be sorry I am sure.
p.s. I am also on youtube as Willybizz, who would have thought it eh !
I am really enjoying computing again, and have so many things that I want to do, there are not enough hours in
a day, thanks to Steve Jobs and his teams at Apple.
